DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

This is a technical position responsible for the efficient functioning of standalone and networked systems. The incumbent assists and trains staff that has access to internal and outside agency databases or networks. An incumbent also operates and makes repairs on computers and related peripheral equipment. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director with considerable leeway allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the work. Supervision is not a function of this class. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:  (Illustrative Only)

Assists in the testing, delivery and setup of new equipment in user department/unit;

Installs and upgrades software including the ability to customize same to meet specific requirements;

Coordinates and logs hardware-related problems and resolves them with the computer vendor to ensure ongoing computer

reliability;

Coordinates and resolves department problems associated with hardware, software, training & production;

Tracks outstanding problems and follows up until problem resolution occurs;

Advises user(s) of procedure to follow until resolution occurs;

Meets with supervisor and determines the best approach for solving difficult problems with the system;

Attends technical meetings to review changes and modifications in procedures;

Maintains LOGIN ID’s, passwords, and authorizations to access data; and Assists in running nightly backup procedures;

Performs other duties as assigned.

Excellent knowledge of procedures related to troubleshooting hardware and software problems;

Excellent knowledge of computer/network terminology;

Excellent knowledge of modern methods, principles and techniques of data processing and data communications;

Working knowledge of GIS systems;

Ability to adapt purchased software to existing applications;

Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing;

Marcus Whitman CSD is seeking a dedicated and qualified TESOL teacher to provide English language instruction and support to multilingual learners. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to equity, cultural responsiveness, and helping students achieve English language proficiency while accessing academic content.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, deliver, and assess instruction for English Language Learners (ELLs) aligned with NYSED ENL and TESOL standards (or applicable state standards).

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to support language development across content areas.

  • Differentiate instruction based on students’ English proficiency levels and learning needs.

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with families.

  • Participate in professional development and school/district initiatives related to multilingual learners.

SCHOOL BUS MONITOR

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is routine work of ordinary difficulty involving 
responsibility for overseeing the loading and unloading of student passengers, assisting the driver 
in maintaining order and for ad­ ministering to their needs, comfort and conduct while in transit 
on regularly scheduled bus trips to and from school. Supervision is exercised over the conduct of 
student passengers as required. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)

Rides on a school bus for the purpose of assisting pupils to climb aboard and alight from bus;
Seats and places student passengers as required;
May operate a lift to load and unload handicapped student passengers and secures restraint devices 
and wheel chair locks;
Maintains order on bus and makes certain that student passengers are seated while bus is in motion;
Prepares written reports;
Meets with parents, head bus driver and school officials when necessary; Assists students and 
drivers as needed.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS:

Good general intelligence; familiarity with the various bus routes in the district and their 
stopping places for students; ability to understand and follow simple oral and written directions; 
ability to get along well with students and command their respect; some knowledge of first aid 
methods; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: None is required, but ability to get along with children and to maintain 
discipline are desirable.

FOOD SERVICE HELPER
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility
for the preparation and service of food and the cleaning of kitchen equipment. An
incumbent of this class may also act as lunchroom cashier. Direct supervision is
received from a Cook. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative Only)
Assists in or prepares simple foods such as desserts and salads at the request of
Cook; Assembles and breaks down hot and cold food packing lines; May assist in portioning and packing prepared food as scheduled; Sets tables for meals and cleans them after meals; Heats and serves food to students and employees; Cleans refrigerators, coolers, dishwashers and other kitchen equipment; Cleans work area; Washes dishes, pots and pans by hand or uses the dishwasher; May receive stock items and put them in proper place when necessary; May act as lunchroom cashier.
