Position Summary
The Marcus Whitman Central School District seeks a dynamic, student-centered leader to serve as Director of Athletics and Student Services. The primary responsibility of this position is leadership of the district's interscholastic athletic program. In addition, the Director will provide administrative and student support services across the district as needed and as designated by the Superintendent of Schools. This is a district-level leadership position offering the opportunity to shape both a competitive, character-driven athletic program and the broader student experience at Marcus Whitman.
Primary Responsibilities: Athletics
The Director will provide leadership, supervision, and management of all aspects of the district's interscholastic athletic program, including but not limited to:
• Scheduling of contests, officials, transportation, and facilities for all athletic teams
• Recruitment, recommendation, supervision, and evaluation of coaching staff in accordance with Commissioner's Regulations (8 NYCRR 135.4) and district policy
• Ensuring compliance with NYSPHSAA, Section V, and league rules, including eligibility, classification, and sportsmanship standards
• Oversight of Athletic Placement Process (APP) procedures
• Management of the athletic budget, equipment, uniforms, and inventory
• Coordination of required coaching certifications, first aid, CPR/AED, and Concussion Management compliance
• Implementation of the district's Cardiac Emergency Response Plan as it pertains to athletic facilities and events
• Supervision of home athletic contests and events
• Communication with student-athletes, families, coaches, and the community regarding the athletic program
• Promotion of a positive, inclusive athletic culture aligned with the district's mission
Additional Responsibilities: Administrative and Student Support
As designated by the Superintendent of Schools, the Director will provide administrative and student support services, which may include but are not limited to:
• Student supervision, attendance, and discipline support
• Support for district health, safety, and emergency planning initiatives
• Participation in district-level committees, planning teams, and special projects
• Support for building administration during the school day as needed
• Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Schools
Qualifications
• New York State certification as School District Leader (SDL) preferred; School Building Leader (SBL) considered
• Ability to serve as Director of Health and Physical Education preferred, but not required (NYS certification in physical education or health, in combination with administrative certification, per Commissioner's Regulations)
• Experience in athletic administration, coaching, and/or school leadership preferred
• Knowledge of NYSPHSAA and Section V rules and Commissioner's Regulations governing interscholastic athletics
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Demonstrated commitment to students

Full time, 12 month administrative position. Probationary appointment leading to tenure consideration in accordance with NYS Education Law. Salary range of $82,000 to $105,000, commensurate with experience and certification, with a competitive benefits package per district administrative compensation parameters.
